Can all you agnostic and atheist "intellectuals" just SHUT the hell up and just enjoy this fantastic singer and guitarist! This is probably one of the best covers of this classic Billie Holiday song.

+aussiegirl67 I just discovered her in the last year while listening to Sophie Barker's station on Pandora Radio and I was blown away. Now I must find everything that Eva has recorded and soak it all in like a happy sponge. I was sad (no, really sad) to hear her story but after thinking about it for a while, I realize that I am lucky to have found this splendid vocalist (and guitarist) and resigned myself to feeling happy to have found her music. PS: I almost visited your country once while my Uncle Sam sent me to southeast Asia for a year or so. I picked Hawaii instead. Oh well. Peace to you aussiegirl67.

Billie Holiday was my Godmother. I’m honored that Eva chose to cover it and what an amazing job she did. Another great talent lost way to soon. Fortunately, your music will live forever, RIP Miss Cassidy!

For those who consider this to be some kind of "gospel" tune because it mentions god and the bible, I read the lyric more as a plaintive condemnation of capitalism and its effects on personal relationships. Given that the tune was written in the late 1930s at the height of communist critiques of capitalism, this isn't particularly far-fetched.

My favorite versions are still Billie Holiday's and Sonny Rollins'. But Eva just blows that bridge out of the water -- superlative! There's something a little brittle about her tone in this recording that I don't like, but the phrasing and dynamic of this vocal is world-class.

Thanks for this bit of information. I do not know how you "know" it, but I would have to say that where ever she got her spiritual foundations from, it came through loud and clear through her music. We all have our journey and I am glad I am getting to know her journey through bits and pieces that are here on the internet. I am one of many who is moved by her music. Thanks to everyone for sharing what you know of Eva.

Speaking from experience, when you are raised with religion, you can never fully leave it (even if you wanted to) and it never fully leaves you. It's part of what forms you as a person. She still did believe in God.

Well, God Bless The Priest That Smokes His Own. Though, I'd rather be "Big Banging" with Mad Scientists & Constellations then (so called) "Celibate" Priests & hoodwinked congregations. But what do I know? I'm only a piece of bull shit sittin' on the double yellow lines in the no passing zone of life, waiting for a ticket or a bucket. Don't step in it, it'll feel like baaad religion! Good Day!!

Mayhaps your opinion is a bit one dimensional. Eva didn't live to see how beloved her music would be. Shame. RIP Eva.

Eva's incredible voice gave a new beauty to any song she sang. RIP songbird. Your voice cannot and will not be silenced by death.
