Hell yeah, Annie Lennox was one of those singers who could "sing the phonebook" (pardon the expression) and still sound incredible.

Madonna was a genius at marketing and outrage, but her voice does NOT hold a candle to Ms. Lennox's.

My vote goes to Annie because she simply gave Dave's musical vision extra fuel to lift off skyrocket, although both of them made Eurythmics a deserved institution - Dave due his instrumentation/production skills and of course, Annie due her vocal deliveries and stage persona that is hard to beat or match to this day (despite the fact both of them sound rather tired today). I truly doubt Eurythmics would have had such longevity with their music, if the line up was somewhat different.

Much better than the shit bag T-Birds version. Where are they now anyway? They ruined this song and disappeared. THANK GOD!

@HighRiseChateau In my last novel The King of The Woods, there are no less than 20 pages about Eurythmics. The novel is set in New York during the 80s. Kevin (the narrator and protagonist states how he prefers Dave on synthesizer rather than guitar. Kevin is angry when he sees Eurythmics perform Sweet Dreams with Dave on the guitar. Kevin wanted to see Dave playing Synths. Later in 1990, he is dismayed seeing Martin Gore from Depeche Mode play I Want You Now on guitar rather than on synthesizer.

@HighRiseChateau You are correct! Without Dave, Eurythmics would have never gotten off the ground musically. His production gave the Eurythmics their DISTINCT sound that was never and is frankly unable to be copied. I'm also an electronic musician and producer. It was Dave Stewart who was the single biggest influence on me to become a synthesizer player and musician. Funny because Dave later on became to be known more for his guitar work. I've always preferred the techno-pop Eurythmics.

I love the polemic of comments here: Lennox fans love it, Hayes fans hate it. I see a band covering a song they like to try and establish their identity. This was 82, their prior release was bit of neo-psychedelic new wave, and they then turned to experimental electronic music in their home studio. Put that together and by 83 the sweet dreams of success would come true.

Now and then, Annie Lennox is the best of all new wave classic! She is my first love in music since 1983.
