Little Esther grew up and became Esther Phillips. She was a great influence on Arethra and other soul singing ladies, but she didn't get the recognition during her time. Her "Home Is Where the Hatred Is" was nominated for a Grammy award in 1972. When Aretha Franklin's "Young, Gifted, and Black" won the award, Franklin herself personally handed the award to Phillips, saying she deserved it more.

Phillips became addicted to heroin, rehabbed several times, and died in 1984, at the age of 48 due to complications from her heroin addiction. She is a great lady of blues/jazz/soul/ and r & b. I hope you enjoy this great ladies talents! "No Gravestone For My Head" from her 1966 album and 2001 re-issue cd, "Esther Phillips - The Country Side of Esther".

I made a Playlist on my Channel that this song would be in. It would be in BLUES - of all types, and also BLUES - female. I've worked for several months on my music videos so that they are a bit more organized. I do have a lot of Playlists, but they help to separate the music so you can find it easier. If you like Mississippi John Hurt, Joe Callicott, old blues men, Taj Mahal, Mississippi Delta, Piedmont styling, please check out BLUES - Country Blues. Buddy Guy/B.B. King & others in BLUES - Electric/Chicago. You also can type in MyMoppet52 into the YouTube Search Bar & it will get you to my Channel. I hope this helps in finding the types music you enjoy, Moppet

such a big beautiful voice for such a little lady. Only special people who have known pain can sing the blues. This shows because she can take a country song and put it to the blues. Fantastic. That is talent.
