The strat sounds better on clean but the LP sounds better on leads...I wonder how he decided to use the strat exclusively? Such a tough compromise. He should have Gibson/Fender collaborate to build him a Frankenstein doubleneck with LP/strat necks. Just kidding, that would probably look hideous :) Never cared for his tone with an SG but he sure makes the ES-335 sing!

I like how he creates interesting patterns and note selections on all of the key changes...oh - their aren't any key changes - Well i still like his ability to play licks from his life in A.

At age 49, I can't believe I'm just now discovering Eric Johnson. I've only been listening to him seriously for about 3 weeks and I've already bought 2 of his albums! Live at Austin, and Tones. I've decided to digest this stuff chronologically, haha, it's more fun that way.

His guitar playing is something you would want to hear with a big crowd around you and its pitch dark and quiet with just the guitar playing with projections in the back.

sounds great as always =), just wondering is the stuff he plays from 1:08 for some of his songs or is it just a jam?

Here's the thing about Eric Johnson and his tone: he has some great tones, but the differences between many of them as demonstrated are so subtle as to be undetectable except to him. As long as it makes him happy, great - but all the shit he goes through to obtain them seems unnecessary.
