Poor Pattie Boyd :( He wrote this song about his first wife, who was trying to drink as much as him (he was an alcoholic) so she can keep up with him and try to be buddies with his friends and him. Instead he wrote this embarrassing song, and sang it for all his friends last night, and then grabbed a hound woman from the crowd and had sex with her. During their makeout session he shooed Pattie away and she cried so bad and went to go live with her sister the next day. I love clapton as a preformer but he is a real self righteous jackass in real life. Read "wonderful tonight" by Pattie Boyd and you'll understand why

Yeah, the ironed Strat! Always reminded me of Salvador Dali's famous "Wilting Clocks", which fits so well with "The Shape I'm In". So cool! I agree, one of my all time favorite Clapton records and so underrated!

She wouldn't haven taken the "crap" from Clapton if she never married him in the first place. She knew the kind of man he was, she knew what she was getting herself into, yet she actually chose to marry him. She could have avoided everything that happened afterward. In all honesty, both of them had no business getting married, they had no idea what it meant. She was right, though-they were both playing each other.
