eric was in the throes of heroin addiction. Pete went to see him and helped get him clean. Pete organised this concert. As i inderstand it, pete was primarily the 3rd rhythm guitar. He announces the band at one point...i had bought this album on cassette when it came out..

In Townshends book it is Ronnie Wood playing slide on Layla....quite good. Townshend tells that he was "just" the rhythm guitarist in the band for this concert...What a band! I have this album but in it's original vinyl release....great concert. Didn't know until I read Clapton's autobiography how strung out he was at the time...but still played like a magician.

In Layla, they'd probably give Clapton the solo, but for all I know it could be Ronnie Wood! It sounds like a slide guitar so it probably is Townshend, but the best way to find out is to ask them.

Pardon my ignorance, but is it Clapton or Townshend that plays the solo from 2:30 to 3:10? I'm thinking it is actually Townshend, but in any case it is inspired.
