Yes, some do pay homage to Screamin' Jay Hawkins and clearly it is regarded with a kind of awe by the devoted. Some should never touch this song. Marylin Manson does an interesting version, he has an ear for a great song.9 years ago

Interesting how closely this has kept to the original arrangement by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. There have been a lot of covers, notably by Nina Simone. but my favourite of them is by Alan Price, who was in the Animals with Eric Burden originally, and changed the arrangement completely. But Eric's voice is and always has been in a class of its own.9 years ago
