This album is a work of synth art, it begs the question, what would have happened if Vince clarke had stayed with Depeche Mode and still made this album ? Dave Ghan's vocals on this track, My imagination is ru ning away.

Good on a disgraceful level. I fucking love Erasure and those who do not are void of any real appreciation of music. The tits. Sorry for ranting there but seriously, the tits. Damn those 5 who downrated. DAMN THEM. Rant over.

This song from 1988 pre-empted a disilluioned, self-destructive society veering towards catastrophe - and it was very apt for the time as in 1989 it all came full circle - The Kegworth Air Crash, Hillsborough, the IRA Bombs going off at Tern Hill and Deal, the Marchioness running aground, the Friday the 13th Crash... Sadly here we are in 2014 and this song is even more apt now than it was some 25 years ago... :-(

Some of the lyrics in this song made my hair stand up in the late 80s - the streets closed, kid on the run, bullets firing, the broken man who drank and gambled himself onto the street, body found by the river, the bit about the "child in the arms of a teenage mum". A social statement of that era, that sadly is still just as relevant today...

Loved The Innocents in the 80s - one of the last of the few truly great albums made that decade
