A true master of the art. Simultaneous creating a delicious legato line and following the instructed dynamics while still painting a vivid imagery of Eleazar's broken character.

Pure vocal opulence…a true master. The timbre, the power, the passion, the musicianship and sensitivity is unparalleled.

One of the greatest vocal performances ever recorded.Caruso just kept getting better and better. His technique here sounds impeccable, and he put so much (appropriate) feeling into it.

Yes and not fair to him as far as the recordings then and now. Anyone who heard him would tell you the voice in house was much better then on the old recordings no matter what they do to help them. All who heard him as an adult are now gone though.

Caruso was and maybe for many still is the king tenor we have on record. My subjective perception is that he - aside from his versatile voice - had an extraordinary ability to BE and FEEL what he was singing - even in the recordings - all studio recordings, btw. Of course studio recordings in those days being quite different from studio recordings today ...

He was a king among tenors and my Grandad heard him 2 or 3 times in Chicago. He always said none where better and he heard all the old greats, yes most them all of them and he lived 100 years from 1880 to 1980 and was not senile or deaf when he died. I was 40 when grandfather died and he often talked of all the opera singers he heard in his long life as a opera fan. His #2 favorite was Tucker and also loved Melchior in Wagner!

So pleased to have found this recording wihthout much scratching noise. My mothers father knew Caruso through going to Covent Garden Opera House regularly. I believe he was introduced to Caruso as he was researching Jewish life for his part in this opera. Caruso sang at my grandparents London house in the music room, my mother telling me that she being eight at the time was in bed. However she could hear everything.
