I don't get the self mutilation in black metal, and I'm not saying it's just in DSBM; I could see how that would fit into it. @RitualVomit Artists cutting themselves was first done in black metal around the late 80's/early 90's when Dead joined Mayhem. Which predates the thing referred to as emo theses days by well over a decade.
