Thanks for posting! I've been looking for this song everywhere. It is my favorite of Sting's.

This is my favorite one done by him, at least at the moment. His music remains as timeless as ever.

It may be about foxes but it sounds like a wooden ship on the high ocean. Stunning.

@tonymberry "There were 10 songs originally. The last was called 'End of the Game', but it just didn't flow with the rest of the album. It slowed the record down. I believe people's attention span for listening to music in one sitting is about 45 minutes. I know CDs are a lot longer now, but I like an album to be listened to in one go." (New York Post, 10/99, retrieved from sting.com) Needless to say, I don't think any of us here would agree with Sting on this one...:)

@bradmorris67 Hi mate, yeah, a bit weird because the accent is on 5. If you count from the first beat of the bar 1 2 3 4 FIVE 6, 1 2 3 4 FIVE 6, you should get through the full song without a problem:) Great stuff! Seven Days is another of my favourites for that reason ( and the lyrics ) Count 12345, 12345:) Really cool, just different time signitures in pop songs, refreshing when everything is in 4/4 all the time. hope that helps, Gazza

The lovers, that the song is about, out chased the cares and baggage of life, until "The dogs are all worn out // And the horses are lame // The hunters and hunted // At the end of the game." And, in the end, as per the other central metaphor of the song, their rivers will empty out in to the same "great ocean // carried by the drag of the moon." It's bittersweet, but they never gave up, staying one step ahead of what hunted their free hearts. If it's sad, it's a noble, defiant sad.

This is such a great song. I'm pissed it wasn't included on the Brand New Day album! It sounds amazing on 'Symphonicities' though.
