Play a Beatles song requires competence. And that Emmylou has. A wonderful interpretation, a single moment of music. A real treasure. Emmylou always in my heart.

The Beatles rule. And this among the VERY FEW covers that is as almost as good as the original. ELH rules too.

A great version. I wish Paul would have slowed his version down maybe later in a live show. This is about the time that Emmylou was beginning to lose her upper range. It can get on your nerves but she still gets through beautifully.

listening to this great cover, I almost forget what the original sounds like. It almost brings tears to my eyes.

@panlemans "I'm not too fond of people covering Beatles songs, but this one is soo beautiful." In general, I agree. The original versions are etched so deeply into my mind that anything else seems a sacrilege. But Emmylou's cover of "For No One" is an exception to the rule. In fact, I find that I prefer it to the original. It is so much more soulful and sad. She sang this at the White House in a tribute to Paul and was absolutely wonderful. You can find the whole program at the PBS site.

@ChristIllusion731 I respectfully disagree. Even mangled covers introduce young listeners to Beatles music that they might otherwise never hear. Some of them will go on to explore the original and come to love and appreciate it as much as any Beatles purist.
