Haha! All you geniuses pointing out the dead solid obvious that Ray Charles does this "better" are more than missing the point. Ray's "What'd I Say" was more than an original comp, it was a groundbreaking synthesis of black gospel and secular RnB that changed everything to come... wanna know someone else who did the same but with white church hymns and brimstone (and Yes, Virginia, borrowed jump blues... Elvis Aaron Presley. He also created a synthesis that changed everything. Truth be told, Elvis' rendition of "What'd I Say" is as good or better than Ray's versions of several songs that Elvis made popular. Not unreasonable to say his voice had more range and versatility than Brother Ray's. Though Ray was, clearly, the better actor.

This was recorded in June of 1970 during rehersals for his fall Vegas engagement, and filmed for the Documentary Elvis - That's The Way It Is. Just relaxing and jamming after lunch... Never intended to be recorded... but a rare and fantastic, show of Elvis in his "bluesy mode".....

Sounds like the rehearsal (filmed and recorded) for the Concert movie "Elvis-That's the way it is". It's a shame that.. only a small portion of this performance was used in the film.
