"Fame And Fortune"Fame and fortunehow empty they can beBut when I hold you in my armsThat's heaven to meWho cares for fame and fortuneThey're only passing thingsBut the touch of your lips on mineMakes me feel like a kingYour kind of loveis a treasure I holdIt's so much greaterthan silver or goldI know that I have nothingIf you should go awayBut to know that you love meBrings fame and fortune my way

On this day in 1960 {Saturday, May 28th} Elvis flew to Las Vegas for the week-end; his traveling buddies sported dark sunglasses and long coats, thus the term 'Memphis Mafia' was born...At the time "Stuck on You" was at #2 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; while the record's B-side, "Fame and Fortune" was at #20...The week before "Stuck on You" had ended its four week stay at #1, and two weeks earlier "Fame and Fortune" had peaked at #17 {for 1 week}... And his eighth studio album, 'Elvis Is Back!’, was at #3 on Billboard's Top LP Albums chart...

Elvis was at his physical peak at this stage of life, his voice, lithe, lilting, seamless, simply an exquisite sound, and as always, his impeccable ear and incredible soul for lyric interpretation setting him apart from all others. It was all so effortless for Elvis, talent exuded from every pore of him. He was the king of all musical genres. A giant in an age and industry of very gifted entertainers.

First live performance after the death of his beloved mom. It was all downhill from there. Had his mom lived another 20 to 25 years, Elvis could very well be alive today and singing another 2,000 songs we haven't heard before. Such raw talent, sheer charisma and good looking and of course, the voice that stayed with him to the very end.

On this day in 1960 {March 2nd} Elvis appeared in Scotland*; but it wasn't in concert, his plane landed at Prestwick Airport for re-fueling, he was on his way back to the U.S. and three days later would be discharged from the Army...At the time he didn't have a record on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; but thirty-three days later on April 4th "Stuck On You" entered the chart at #84; eventually it peaked at #1 {for 6 weeks} and spent 16 weeks on the Top 100...And since this was Elvis; of course the B-side also made the Top 100, "Fame and Fortune" reached #17 and stayed on the chart for 10 weeks...* It would be the only time the King set foot in the United Kingdom...
