Ok Here he is, God himself...not an impersonator, or cover (and there are many good ones!) But the real deal. Elvis was a little before my time, but not much. My older sister was into him. When I was in my teens, Elvis had already been on the Vegas circuit for several years. He may as well been one of the Rat Pack as far as I was concerned. But I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news he had died. I was hitchhiking on US 395 outside of Bishop, CA. I had just completed hiking a long portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. I had been out for more than 3 weeks, completely out of touch. There were no cell phones, GPS or Twitter in those days. A older guy picked me up. I threw my back pack in the back seat. He said "you hear the news?" "What news?" "Elvis died this morning" whoa. This was big, even to me. I have come to appreciate him and his music a lot more as the years go by. I always loved his movies though. I thought Elvis was actually a pretty good actor.
