Elton said that these lyrics are meaningless. That's what I saw and heard. It kinda bummed me out -- this song was my favorite on his first album. Notable by its absence was Your Song. Elton decided that that this album was wasn't good enough, and saved it for his second. Did he know there would be a second album? Maybe by contract, maybe by crossed fingers.

Dam straight, porbrojeffro! Not one of his better known songs, but I think maybe one of his better ones. It really shows the amazing force he was when he first appeared. There might be more John Lennons out there, but there is only one Elton John.

I would note that the single version of this (b side to "Your Song") even though being the same version as on the lp, has an extra line when he starts the outro section. "Take Me Take Me, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah" is said before "Take me Take me aw yeah" on the single. I don't know why it was dubbed out on the album version. It feels like somebody accidentally hit a switch.
