Ray Cooper is the man. I still marvel at the way he destroyed that gong in "Layla" at that late 80s benefit show (I forget which one). And of course Sir Elton is on fire in this performance..... excellent song!

I had heard that, in fact, I believe he may have opened for Leon at the Troubadour, but I'm not sure. Thanks for the other link-that was pretty cool, and its nice to see the "early Elton trio" being paid some tribute. 17-11-70-phenomenal stuff!

Elton was a brilliant composer who peaked in 1973. Tumbleweed Connection has to be one of the greatest albums ever made. Madman is right there behind it.
