"Dust my broom" was a old southern saying a man used in the company of friends, meaning he's gonna walk off or quit his current wife or girlfriend for his mistress. This is also suggested in the lyrics "I quit the best girl i'm lovin' - now my friend can get my room.", and "I got to leave my baby - and break up my happy home."

Dust my broom - means walking out on something. Usually a woman

I once had the check Lilian paid Elmore for recording this. I think it was for $33.00. I gave it to Derek Trucks when he played here in Mississippi when he was about 18. I think the song means he's getting rid of his women {or broom}

Thanks for your constructive comments here. We should have more of these on YT instead of pointless aggro. It's only music after all isn't it? It's not the end of the world if one person likes certain songs and another person doesn't. Good comments - thanks, nowinterweather.

Elmore's definitely a bit of an odd breed. After the Wolf, though, no one does it for me like him. Go ahead and take a listen to the last version he recorded of "It Hurts Me Too;" you can definitely hear the maturity in his phrasing there, but it doesn't compromise the organic sort of feel that people love him for. And that's really what it is; he did more to marry the delta and the city sound than Muddy or anyone else because of how much more "natural" his electric music felt.

Am I to understand that we can't be friends anymore after my comments re Elmore James, docdoowop? Have to say that anyone who has a username like docdoowop is hardly in a position to call anyone else an idiot!

After listening to this, listen to almost anything by Eric Clapton. Eric obviously was heavily influenced by Elmore James.

Thanks for your reply, SirBowflexALot. You obviously like Elmore very much. I think he's OK, but don't particularly like the song. Anyway, you do and as they say 'variety is the spice of life'! Cheers.
