I love this song, in my mind it's about being alone having broken up, and then only being able to remember the good even though there was plenty of bad, hence the reason for the break up. I didn't feel the images necessarily conveyed that sentiment though.

I remember when I was younger I had a dream about a girl I never met or saw in the real world. Even though she wasn't real the dream itself felt like it happened. When I woke up and started trying to recall it the memories slipped away slowly. Then as I got out of bed I remembered nothing except the fact that I had a dream of a girl who never existed. Just a dream I'll never recall. That is what this song made me think of. Funny how songs make you think of some things :)

I went through this exact process when I lost mother. I lost her when I was six, so it's very difficult for me to remember her. I do remember trying to think of her looks, her smell, her sound, when I would try to sleep. I thought that it would help, but over time you really do lose those little memories. It's been twelve years, and I still miss her.
