This recording was released as the B-side even though it was the hit song from the production, with the title song "Irene" taking the A-side.
"Alice Blue Gown" was revived in 1940 because of a movie version of "Irene" starring Anna Neagle and Ray Milland. That year, it charted at #7 in Billboard for Frankie Masters and His Orchestra (vocal by Marion Francis) in May 1940, #16 for Ozzie Nelson and His Orchestra in 1940 and #18 for the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1940. .
