Charted at #1 in 1920. Lovely song from the 1919 musical "Irene" which starred beautiful Edith Day in the title role. Recorded on February 2, 1920. Released in April 1920. This recording was released as the B-side even though it was the hit song from the production, with the title song "Irene" taking the A-side.

"Alice Blue Gown" was revived in 1940 because of a movie version of "Irene" starring Anna Neagle and Ray Milland. That year, it charted at #7 in Billboard for Frankie Masters and His Orchestra (vocal by Marion Francis) in May 1940, #16 for Ozzie Nelson and His Orchestra in 1940 and #18 for the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1940. .

Written by Joseph McCarthy and Harry Tierney.

My mother used to sing this to me all the time when I was young. Her name was Alice. I just had to listen to this on Mother's Day. Thanks for posting it.
