I would agree that Eddie Fisher was a better singer than Sinatra, but the best version of this song, or at least the best arrangement, was by Art Jarrett in the 1933 film 'Dancing Lady'.

The best Eddie recording IMHO. Great song, well arranged, no background group or other intrusions. Just one fantastic vocalist singing a fantastic song from the Great American Songbook. Can't get enough of this one!

@stevevandien Love this post Stevevandien. Yes, Eddie was the best. Only his true fans know how good he really was. Also, a very sweet person. Unfortunately, he got caught up in the show biz world and those women. But he had a life we only dream of. His voice was still good when I saw him perform in 1995, maybe not as great as when this was recorded, but he could still hit the high notes. Also, there is a video of him singing Oh My Papa from 1992 on youtube.

Good heavens. Fisher in his prime had a magnificent voice, damn near operatic. Arguably better than at least a few of his competitors, like Vic Damone, Tony Bennett, Don Cornell, maybe even Sinatra. The voice sails forth freely, with effortless transitions between head and chest voice, while retaining handsome, virile tone --

One of Eddie's best.Yet that's tough to say, since every one of his recordings was top notch.

If that guy had only lived as well as he sang. Marvelously gifted, he threw it all away, A shame to have that level of talent, and squander it.

Since I joined YT I have been searching for this record by Eddie Fisher and it seemed everything but this one. It is my all time favourite of his and takes me back to early teens when it was a really big hit for him and I so loved it and his voice. The high start was a wow. Wonderful tune and words, complete romance. Thank yo so much this is what YT is all about.
