Ian McCulloch woke up one morning with the phrase "fate up against your will" in mind. He wrote it down and the remainder of the song fell.

I remember when this first came out. It was very popular in the post punk and gay clubs in Miami. It was very cool when they would turn the fog machine on. Miami in the eighties was beyond epic.
