Nicki Parrott is a world-class double bassist and singer/songwriter. In her work with artists from around the globe she has brought a signature sound to every bass part she has played. She performs regularly at the world’s best Jazz Festivals and can be seen Mondays at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City with the legendary guitarist and inventor, Les Paul. Since June of 2000, this union has been an ideal showcase for her musical abilities, flair for improv, and gift for entertaining a crowd. An accomplished stride pianist, Rossano Sportiello grew up listening to Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller and Ralph Sutton, whom he met shortly before the elder’s death. However, his pianistic style also pays homage to the swing and bebop eras.

Shanghai Jazz opened in October 1995 and has been named "One of the Top 100 Great Jazz Clubs in the World." We have earned rave reviews for our food, service and ambience from the New York Times, Star Ledger, Zagat Survey and Inside New Jersey. Our philosophy is warm hospitality, gourmet Asian cuisine inspired by the seasons, a well-focused wine list and a full bar with almost a dozen beers on tap, including our own micro-brew Shanghai Jazz Ale. And of course exceptional value. We are proud to present world class artists 6 nights a week with no music charge except for special events.

Owners Martha Chang and David Niu returned to Martha's hometown of Madison, New Jersey after traveling, working and studying in Asia with the aid of a Fulbright fellowship. Inspired by Shanghai in the 1920s and 30s, when it was known as the "Paris of the Orient," we have sought to create a jazz club infused with "Jazz and Joy."

At Shanghai Jazz, we are delighted and honored to share our love of Great American jazz, regional Asian specialties and fine wine with you. Whether you enjoy dim sum and cocktails in our Long Oak Bar, an intimate dinner with family and friends, or a unique social or corporate gathering, we look forward to welcoming you to our home.
