In the video for "Exile," McGrath explores now-antique methods for animation in digital and analogue mediums. After printing digital footage from a spring 2014 tour of Germany to 16mm film, and inspired by the endless graffiti that covers the streets and walls of Berlin, McGrath scratched and painted by hand on a roll of film that stretched just short of 300 feet. Filming the projected result at Toronto arthouse cinema Cinecycle, the video for "Exile" emerged from the smoky mysteries and glorious limitations of the 16mm reel.
