The creation of producer/label-head Dick Griffey and Leon Sylvers, this Los Angeles band did light funk and clever dance-pop numbers in the late '70s and '80s. Bassist Kevin Spencer and vocalists Nidra Beard and Linda Carriere comprised the group. They got off to a fast start with the single "I Don't Want to Be a Freak (But I Can't Help Myself)" from their 1979 LP Your Piece of the Rock. The next single, "I've Just Begun to Love," was their lone Top Ten R&B hit, peaking at number six in 1980. They continued recording for Solar through the '80s, but never registered any other major records. Leon Sylvers joined them in 1981, but his presence didn't rectify the situation. They remained on Solar until 1988.

My boy Wardel Potts, Jr. on the drums!!! Nasty!! Dynasty was an underrated band IMO and like them, the Sylvers, and even Lakeside were the backbones @ SOLAR.

1983? I was only 11 at the time......Wonder what she presently looks like. She did look tasty during her heydays, that's what I'm feeling even though it's a fantasy.

They divorced in 1983 so you're 30 years late (lol) No hating needed unless you had a thing for Nidra circa 1980-83. She still kept her married surname.

Thank you.I did & it was sad. I believe this family (especially Leon) contributed so much to the music industry. They need about 2 hours & more postive details about all of their success & (only if they wanted), a followup episode with Foster since the last I heard he's no longer in jail.

@rasta487 Hi, I'm not sure if you've seen it yet but there is an "unsung" for The Sylvers on youtube. Just do a search and you'll find it (if you haven't seen it already).

Leon Sylvers strikes again. I would sure like to see an unsung on this man, his family the Sylvers & hear what he has to say about all the groups he produced. Shalamar & the Whispers to name 2.
