Are looks really important when choosing a new drum kit? The look should never be more important then the sound but it sure doesn't hurt when the drum kit looks a cool as this DW Design Series Clear Acrylic 5-piece kit. There is something about being able to see the drummer through the drums that is just great. It is almost like the drum shells are invisible and the hardware is just floating there.

It's not just the look, It's the sound!

The drum shells are seamless Acrylic with a thickness of 5.5mm, and they also come with 45-degree bearing edges. The sound from these drums is different then wood drums. They are punchy and a little bit dry but also have great tone. As with all DW drums, I was able to tune them easily. I was using a single-ply drum head for this video but I can see them doing well with a thicker two ply drum head like a Remo Pinstripe or Evans Evans EC2. I really liked the thud and snap from the kick drum. The snare has a warm tone to it that was very enjoyable to listen to and play. I got all the rebound from the drum stick that I needed.

The Hardware shines through

The hardware is of the highest standard as with all DW drums. The newly-designed mini Turret lug looks great on the Acrylic shell. Custom-inspired features also include STM (Suspension Tom Mounts), True-Pitch Tuning, the great MAG throw-off on the snare drum, and low-mass die cast claw hooks on the kick drum hoops.

Looks great, sounds great, plays great

This DW Design Series Clear Acrylic 5-Piece Kit was a real blast to play on. After easily getting the drums set up and tuned I started jamming and didn't want to stop. The look is definitely inspiring but add to that a focused, punchy, and warm sound made me really want one of these kits for myself!

The first thing he says is, "You can see the drummer..." So why have a batter head on the B drum?

These are great looking and sounding. Great demo too. However, why does the kick have a front head that isn't clear?

Great review. I haven't seen any reviews by clear water before but I'm going to start watching more.

To be honest, I love SJC's acrylic kits, mainly because of the custom sizes. I don't like two rack toms, nor the small sizes.

I hope other companies take notice... It´s CRUCIAL that the testing is done by pro hands, like Nick´s... I´ve seen 5k kits played by amateur hands and guess what? They sound meh... Congrats, Sweetwater. Hint to Gretsch: change the "teacher" that showcase your drums in this channel...

They look & sound great as do all DW sets...My drummer has a set of DW's from the 80's that are freaking immense!! The clear acrylic is nice but remind me of the Jason Bonham set that DW made for the Led Zep reunion tour that was to imitate the Ludwig Vista Lights that John Bonham used...They were yellow, which i actually prefer over the clear so will other colors be an option in the future?? Jason Bonham has said that his set was a 1 off but that was several years ago..

Good, but a little less processed sound would have been nice.

Nice demo, your playing accentuated the positive. Obviously aesthetically unique, their tone shone thru as well. Thanks, Sweetwater.
