The best hands down! But to give this classic an unexpected twist, check out Lucero back in the 80s with "Tu amiga fiel." Sure, Dusty is the absolute HARDEST ACT to FOLLOW, but Lucero certainly adds yet another layer to this Carole King delicacy. Enjoy!

I grew up, teenage years, to Dusty, she was my favourite girl singer then. 1983 I discovered the great Ofra Haza. One of Ofra's few covers of mainstream music 'standards' was this song. Dusty's is great, but Ofra's will always be the ultimate version for me. Both of these ladies were 'up there' at the top of the profession in their times. Both are 'up there' together in another sense because we lost Ofra in 2000.

Every version of this song is good, because it's just a great song.

@jpeyton62. It sounds like a James Jamerson style to me or him, himself.

This is a great version, except the bass player who must have been severely jacked up on something...Carole King said Dusty Springfield met her once in an elevator and said something to the effect of "so you're the little lady who makes all the music." Springfield's partner also said that a box of King's demos was one of Dusty's prized possessions and no one was allowed near it or risked death.

No one beats Carole, but I gotta say: GREAT VERSION! I didn't know she recorded it too ;-)

Hear hear! I wonder what would have happened in Dusty's career has the Faithful LP been completed and released. I am still gutted that her rendition of "To Love Somebody" was destroyed in the infamous Atlantic fire. Thank goodness Jeff Barry kept finished stereo versions of the remaining tracks.
