Best track Dusty ever recorded. So soulful, wonderful orchestral arrangement. Wonderful!

I read somewhere that 'Your Hurtin' Kind of Love' reached #37 on the UK chart and was not considered a 'hit.' Her interpretation blows ME away. My favorite recording by her is, "I've Been Wrong Before." I love 'Put Your Hands Together' on YouTube @ Hippodrome, and then watching her ass mugging through 'Proud Mary' with Toni Tenille. Love at first sound for me so long ago...

This one isn't so popular not because of the lyrics but because the arrangement is awkward and hard to listen to. It sounds like she's fighting to be heard over the instrumentation. It's not bad, but it certainly isn't one of her best. Of course, this is just one man's opinion (which means nothing really).

What a great song and a dynamic singer. You can believe this: Dusty Springfield is missed and cannot be replaced. :(

@xwsftassell This is my favorite Dusty song, but she was never happy with it. That could be why it's not included on a lot of compilations.

in my opinion from about 1963 to 69 dusty was the best popular music singer on the face of the planet bar none. how the hell didnt this awesome tune make a dent in the charts back in january 65? then again maybe the u.k just wasnt ready for such a raw soul sound, january 65 was still early days, the beatles hadnt even released the help album yet and dusty`s RSG motown special introducing the detroit sound to the brits / europe was later on in the year.

My favourite Dusty track, so soulful, what a voice, what an aragment. Many of the Brit Girls failed to capture that American sound but Dusty NAILED IT time and time again. When she died I heard it on radio two and cried my eyes out. Simon Dewsbury

I adore Dusty here. So raw and powerful and some rough edges. Great singing.

"Why is it always overlooked on compilation cds ?" Because it's a critique on peoples lives. Nobody wants it. Nobody wants that track. They like the cartoon of Dusty Springfield, the beehive, the false eyelashes. What they don't like is having their solar plexuses blasted open. They just don't want that dimension of things in their life. They want everything nice and managable & dead. They want the appearance of Soul Music without the actuality of it, & the resonance of it within themselves.

Yeah, one factor in this... Dusty famously hated the dead, over-soundproofed set-up of Phillips studios, so she recorded the vocals on all her hit records in the ladies lavs next door. Air is the medium of sound. If you stifle it's energetic potential, with vocal booths/soundproofing you lose the possibility of magic. Dusty Springfield understood this, and it is part reason why so many pre-1968 (when oversoundproofing became mandatory) recordings are so all-fire electrifying.

Monumental 1965 "Tryin'-to-wash-the-hurt-away" Ivor Raymonde / Mike Hawker. Her magical, distinctive voice ...a sensual sound full of secrets and promises. Thanks for the post.
