A great song by the white lady of soul, Dusty Springfiled - I Will Come To You (P 1968 Mercury Records)

Lyrics:

Just like a ship sailing out on a morning tide

Sailing far away out to sea and the sea is very wide

You walked away where there's lots of room to hide

Out into the world and the world is very wide

But one day, (baby, one day), baby one day

I will come to you if it takes everyday left in my life

I will come to you for there must be someone in my life

No matter where you are

I'll find you near or far

I will never love 'til I can love with you

And I won't really live

For life without you is like dying

I Don't know where you are

And I don't know if you think of me

But where you are is the only place I wanna be

Lost in a world of nothing much to do

That's how I am ever since losing you

But one day, (baby, one day), oh, baby one day

I will come to you if it takes everyday left in my life, yes I will

I will come to you for there must be someone in my life

No matter where you are, I'll find you near or far

I will never love 'til I can love with you

And I won't really live, for life without you is like dying

(I will come to you, ooh, ooh)

There must be someone in my life

(I will come to you, ooh, ooh)

(I will come to you, ooh, ooh)

Oh baby, there must be someone in my life, baby

(I will come to you, ooh, ooh)

Apparently PHILLIPS abandoned this due to her leaving the label and going to ATLANTIC. Shame because had it had the backing of her other hits I'm sure this one would of been top 10 gold record.

Wikipedia has this as reaching #57 in UK but nothing in US sometime after September 1968. In the US, SON OF A PREACHER MAN was happening for Dusty around the same time. She had just left the PHILLIPS label and was starting with ATLANTIC and so this was probably never released in US by Phillips. Not sure of any of that but it's what I pieced together from various sources.

After a little research I found the following information: "I Close My Eyes and Count to Ten"[1] is a song recorded by British singer Dusty Springfield written by Clive Westlake. Recorded June 1, 1968 at Chappel Studios in London, "I Close My Eyes..." was released that August to reach #4 in the UK where it ranks as one of Springfield's biggest hits. My guess is I WILL COME TO YOU was also recorded at the same time as I CLOSE MY EYES since both were written by Clive Westlake.

By the way its @#$%^&* incredible record that could of been a monumental hit had it not been for all the other incredible music at the time. That's why we have YOUTUBE - for the great buried treasures from that time.

This is from the Dusty in Memphis and her work with Gamble Huff period. 1968-1970.

I know it is a good song, but by 1968 my guess is; this sound was becoming outdated that's why Dusty went to Atlantic to do the Memphis I guess to change her sound. All good artist change their sound, that's how they survive.

I just can not believe that she was not any bigger universally than she was. She was big and she was great, but boy did some promoter or label miss out on maximizing this great lady. If you dont believe it, just look at the hits hse STILL gets on utube.......God bless her..God Bless her...God Bless her.....I'll always do my best to promote her music and her legacy...djsavannahrose

Why wasn't this an enormous hit???? So much of Dusty's best material went unnoticed and under-appreciated. Damn shame.
