Lyrics.

I think Im goin back

To the things

I learned so well

In my youth

I think Im returning to

Those days

When I was young enough

To know the truth

Now there are no games

To only pass the time

No more colouring books

No christmas bells to chime

But thinking young

And growing older

Is no sin

And I can play

The game of life to win

I can recall the time

When I wasnt ashamed

To reach out to a friend

And now I think Ive got

A lot more than

A skipping rope to lend

Now theres more to do

Than watch my sailboat glide

And everyday can be

My magic carpet ride

And I can play hide and seek with my fears

And live my days instead of counting my years

Let everyone debate the true reality

Id rather see the world the way it used to be

A little bit of freedoms

All we lack

So catch me if you can

Im goin back

"Goin' Back" (aka "Going Back") is a song written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King in 1966. It describes the loss of innocence that comes with adulthood along with an attempt, on the part of the singer, to recapture that youthful innocence. The song has been recorded by many different artists, including Dusty Springfield, Goldie Zelkowitz, The Byrds, Elkie Brooks, Deacon Blue, Marianne Faithfull, Bill Drummond (of The KLF), Nils Lofgren, Freddie Mercury (on a Larry Lurex single), The Move, The New Seekers, The Pretenders, Diana Ross, Richard Thompson, Phil Collins and Bon Jovi as well as by Carole King herself.

Thanks Dusty for bringing us your melancholy soulful voice. Greatly missed. Would live to hear her song this with a new arrangement

Back in the 60s I failed to realise just how good Dusty was. I now see and hear her sheer quality, and this is her best! Pity about the rather OTT strings arrangement.
