Ever since Reason 1.0 beatmakers, producers, and button-mashers alike have all loved the venerable old Redrum Drum Computer. And it's easy to see why. Step sequencing drum machines like Redrum or even the classic Roland 808 offer a nearly perfect layout for programming the rhythmic syncopated beats used in so many popular music genres. The 16 buttons, representing the 16 steps in the beat, provide the right blend of predictable beat construction and random experimentation when you want to spice up your beats.

In this micro tutorial, we'll get you started with drum step sequencing and get familiar with the Redrum's layout. You'll soon learn why producers the world over love Kong but also keep coming back to Redrum for that special creative simplicity.

Perhaps, but I'm not buying it. I know someone else mentioned the reference to Stephen King's "The Shining," but that doesn't make any sense to me. I don't see the connection. I still think that since Propellerhead created ReWire sync (Reee Wire) and since they have an iPhone app and former software application called ReBirth (Reeee Birth) and since this program is called Reason, it's more likely that the drum machine should actually be called ReeeDrum. Sorry horror fans! :-)

I always called it REE-Drum too but then I realized that the Redrum is a horror movie reference just like the Scream 4. lol

I use RedRum all the time! Just wish you could automate the resolution knob! Now I make different patterns with different resolution and automate them, ie for fast/slow/triplet hihats. Would be so much easier and fun to just play and record the resolution.
