Fort Worth,Texas here...love the Drive-by Truckers....Paul McCartney once said without Carl Perkins there wouldn't have been any Beatles. Mr. Perkins pretty much gave birth to Rock and Roll through his style of Rock-a-billy!

This music is the essence of southern rockabilly which is along with black Delta blues the progenitor of main stream rock n' roll and quintessentially the story of America in all its grandeur and anxiousness at the influence American culture has on the greater world. It is the soundtrack of life in America and has obviously been a seductive meme for the world at large to those who love and admire us or loath us with equal fervor. And what's best about it is it revolves around Carl Perkins a talent much greater than Elvis and plenty other performers of the time. A damn fine southern boy who could play some goodlicks and sing to boot. Being a good ole boy from North Carolina I very much take pride in that as a southerner. It is a far better thing to admire about the south in light of the poverty and ignorance a southern experience has been for many down here. I'm an old fellow and very much remember Carl in my youth making tunes for Sam Phillips at Sun Records. It beat the heck out of having to listen to the likes of Bobby Vinton, Fabian, Rydell and a host of other crooners of the time trying to turn rock n' roll into a faint imitation of the boring fare that popular music was then from Frank Sinatra to dreary noise that Bing Crosby made. And in '64 the Beatles came on the American scene and changed everything for the better.

First time in many years I was willing to jump in the car and drive 5 hours to see a band. I was not disappointed.

I'm an old English Dead Head and discovered the truckers via Widespread Panci and now I love them to bits, best little band south of the Mason Dixon. They are superb, absolutely magnificent. I have to go and see them, no matter what it cost, maybe take in a Widespread Panic gig this year. Rock On!!!!

I was just introduced to DBT's in the past few months and I immediately bought 4 of their Cd's and a Patterson Hood solo disc. They have such a great amount of talent. This is the first song that I've heard off of the Dirty South album and it is AWESOME!! I'll be picking that one up this weekend. Hope they come to Tampa soon!
