===================================

(Verse One)

I know of sin by the things momma prayed

I know of heaven by the line at its gate

I know of truth and America's way

Come drink the water if you want to be saved

(Verse Two)

Don't drink the water if it's not from my stream

It's all still water if it's not flowing free

Don't drink the water at the watering hole

If you ain't got money, it can't save your soul

(Chorus)

All God's people said amen

(Verse Three)

It's not a sin if it can't make me cry

He's not the devil unless there's fire in his eyes

It ain't the ghost if it don't speak in tongue

It's not a victory 'till the battles been won

(Chorus)

(Verse Four)

Nobody prays unless they lose a son

Don't believe in God till a war's to be won

I know of truth by the lies I've been told

The biggest one is that we're not getting old

(Verse Five)

I know of sin by the things momma prayed

I know of heaven by the line at it's gate

Heard of a kingdom that's not far away

Come drink the water if you want to be saved

(Chorus)

It's so easy to blame religion for all the world's problems except the mindset in the video applies any time you get a group of people together, whether it's under the banner of religion, politics, government, a crime...you name it, the mob mentality will rear its ugly head once even a handful of people come together in the name of whatever cause they are for or against. It's called human behavior.

"Let that which has come forth from the source of pure intention and expression, neither coerced or resisted spell out meaning for you?... via the source of a most perfect symbiosis in music and animation...aah, the Captain extols the virtues of a majestic, mood ridden, menacing masterpiece....this is Art of the highest order, you have enhanced my journey through infinite cosmic skies and seas tenfold...those bloated with an equal polarity of beauty and savage challenges await beyond the towers of nebula... This has been UNFORGETTABLE.

I don’t quit get the discussion around this song. The lyrics are really well done but I don’t think he is saying what most folks seem to think he is. I think the song is very much a social commentary sung from the prospective of the Christians. He chooses two groups to criticize, the purely secular on the one hand, but even more, those who would claim Christianity but are not true to the faith. The writer seems to be bashing those who connect their Christianity entirely with conservative politics. He starts out telling us he understands truth by understanding sin, heaven, and truths about what America really is and isn’t. He also claims the solution is found in Christ alone. This is the water of salvation Christians are always on about. He then explains the many pretenders to true salvation. If the water is not mine, it’s not real. If it’s not free like mine, it’s not real. If you look for salvation in capitalism with everybody else (the watering hole), it’s not real. He then launches into some brilliant writing as he slams this group of “pretenders” I suppose we could call them. These people he tells us only run to their religion when the chips are down and in the final verse he tells us they are blind to the reality of sin, the devil, the Holy Ghost and even true victory. I hate to say it folks, but I think this song is screaming Christianity from the rooftops. Just my two cents.
