As you can see, while Portnoy was playing, Petrucci and Labrie were more....."into the performance." While Mangini was playing, I didn't feel all that drawn into. Since Mike P. was in the band longer, your just used to him. Mangini is an awesome drummer, don't get me wrong, but I'm not used to Mangini yet. Give Mangini another 4 or 5 years, we'll all get used to him being DT's permanent drummer.

Both Mangini and Portnoy are great, skillful players.Difference between them is only just the way of expression.No one can blame one cause that's a indivisuality of each other.I love Portnoy's style but I also respect Mangini's style.DT's drummer has changed and if you don't like, just hear other bands, that's all.

Kind of not a fair comparison... Mangini is clearly trying to play reasonably in the context of massive orchestration. It would have been a ridiculous chaotic trainwreck if he just thrashed out nonstop the way Portnoy does. Portnoy is playing for Portnoy's ego, not for what fits the music...

Technicality isn't equal to having no 'soul' or 'feel' or what ever the fuck it is.On the topic, why in the hell are we musicians - or not, bashing each others' favorite drummer? Just because someone has more energy or skill doesn't mean that the other should be bloody expelled from the band and get vaporized immediately.Why does there need to be the first in everything? I know there's the drummers' rankings, but seriously, there's no actual gauge that tells you whether this guy's blast beats are better than the other one's double bass pedaling or not. That's why there's the phrase 'One of the best'.Christ, I'm realy sorry for the offensive part of mine, but I just feel that a community would rot if we just go on criticizing each other, and not for the good.I'm both a fan of Portnoy and Mangini, each with a different style of drumming. But remember, they are all a part of the Dream Theater family, and if that's not making you satisfied, I don't know what would.About the bashing, if it's just to get the feeling of superiority against the other side, then cheers on you mate, you might need some counseling.

Que batalha mais estúpida e injusta! Comparar trechos com delimitações diferentes sob uma mesma perspectiva é um insulto ao intelecto humano.Tais delimitações se referem ao fato de Portnoy estar de fato solando livre com muito mais espaço de repetições com o resto da banda o acompanhando, enquanto no trecho mostrado, Mangini tem apenas que seguir os padrões sem se exaltar até que o LaBrie dê o sinal de término em 2:03!!!

Equal skills set apart - being a drummer is all about leading a band & not trying too hard to fit in. Personality also plays a very big part because the drumming style comes from the personality within. Has anyone ever heard the saying - "If the drummer is on form then the band is on form". Mangini is a follower & not a leader - it's just my opinion (& I don't have to be the worlds great drummer to have an opinion) - that I'm certainly not.. \0/

Portnoy is and forever will be unbeatable. He was the original drummer of dream theater, and that's why I like him playing this song better.
