Dr John performing at Montreux Jazz Festival 1986. The track is listed as Mac's Boogie but it sounds more like Swanee River Boogie to me.

No, but they both had Professor Longhair as a main influence. Booker has recorded with members of Dr. John's band, and Dr. John has recorded some of his songs. But he was not Dr. John's teacher. I repeat. Read Dr. John's autobiography "Under a Hoodoo Moon". It's a good read.

Check out the movie "Cannery Row" with Nick Nolte and Debra Winger and you'll hear this tune played in one of the party scenes by "Mac", one of the happy hobo types livin' on the row. Good movie with excellent sound track, definitely worth the time.

I totally love his "Yeah, I'm awesome. What of it?" attitude.
