I have known Dougie for over twenty years. He's a wonderful, amazingly talented man. My life is far richer for having him in it!

Now I understand it. Call me dumm or stupid, because I had thought this was a cultural artifact. But no, it's a capitalist commodity and therefore you need to market this in the USA. Good for you, Dougie. Awful of us to think differently - but that's of no oncern to youse, pal, because now money is everything. What a fucking sell-out - not for the first time that rich Scots have sold us out for a bit of gold… But at least we know which side you're on.Have you applied for a USA citizenship yet or not?

Shame! Including Kathy Mattea in this fundamental Celtic (east Atlantic) song turns this into sometihng Gulf of Mexico or Pacific! Then the words are wrong. Come on Dougie, get it right, man, for fuck's sake.

I've loved this song since I heard it for the first time 20 years ago. Recently I've started learning how to play the guitar and if I can't find the chords for a song I can sometimes figure them out just by listening to it. However, if a song starts out in Fm I can't yet extrapolate where to go from there. I have looked in Chordie and Ultimate Guitar but can't find chords to Turning Away. Can anybody advise me?

I am already very familiar with Jerry's consistent presence on the transatlantic sessions, it's one of my favorite things going, but I thank you nonetheless for mentioning it. Had I NOT known, I would have really been missing something.

I was captivated by this song having viewed this session on a video during a holiday on the Isle of Wight in the late 1990’s before I knew who Dougie McLean was. Heard it again performed by the band Ceolas outside a pub during a Crewe and Nantwich folk festival years later, bought their CD learnt the song. Fast forward over a decade and I am living in Scotland playing this song in folk clubs, seeing Dougie in concert and even get the chance to perform on the open stage of his autumn festival.
