I couldn't find my favourite song from RIOF on youtube and now sharing. Enjoy!

I love Scotland and I am Bulgarian.

Music-Traditional arr. Dougie MacLean

Lyrics by Murdo MacFarlane

Album: Riof, 1997

'S Fhada Leam An Oidche Ghemhraidh

'S fhada leam an oidche ghemhraidh

'S fhada 's fhada 's fhada leam I

'S nach fhaic mi ach preiridh lom anh

'S cha chluinn tonn ri tigh'nn gu traigh ann

Chorus:

O fali fali fali o ro

Fali fali fali o ro

Fali fali fali o ro 'S cian nan cian bho dh'fhag

mi Leodhas

'N am do'n fheasgar a bhi ciaradh

'S tric a bhios mo spoirad cianail

Smaoineachadh g'eil cian nan ciah uam

Far 'm bu mhiann leam dhol a cheilidh

Chorus:

O fali fali fali o ro

Fali fali fali o ro

Fali fali fali o ro 'S cian nan cian bho dh'fhag

mi Leodhas

These winter nights are long for me

Long so long so long for me

From this barren prairie's endless roar

I cannot hear the crashing shore

Chorus:

O fali fali fali o ro

Fali fali fali o ro

Fali fali fali o ro 'S cian nan cian bho dh'fhag

mi Leodhas

Amazing song - first saw it on Link TV with a great video of the landscape, like this, but also a sheepherder and dogs and a whole little mini story - probably not allowed to put in on Youtube.

Song written by Murdo Macfarlane, a Hebridean poet/songwriter who spent years in Canada but always missed Scotland and eventually returned. The prairies (where there was no "cèilidh" - neighbourly get-togethers) was not to his taste, especially on long winter nights. Btw, spelling of title not quite right. "...an Oidhche Gheamhraidh".

ps: The song refers to the "Prarie", meaning the song maybe was written by an Irishman who found work with Hudsons Bay Company. The company owned all the area called "Ruperts Land". A far away, very dangerous and lonely place.

So, beautifull. All three. The song. The landscape. Dougie's singing.

Bro, that's Scottish Gaidhlig, not old Irish, very similar though

The lyrics are in old Irish I think as it was written by an Irish immigrant in Canada. The English text is the translation :)
