@chillichomper And if you want to be a smart ass come why not try out for my band and show me how to do it right? As far as examples of the point I am making, in my opinion; Michael Angelo on guitar - fast as all hell = his music sucks! Frank Zappa, Diamanda Galas, Wayne Krantz, Captain Beefheart, Allan Holdsworth, etc; understand there is a lot more to music than speed even though they use it.

@chillichomper LOL, you should learn how to read. My original statement said nothing against technique, it was about people raising speed above all other techniques. Try sticking to the subject. You can attack me all you like but my music is very technical sonically and in many other ways so I guess your assertion is again incorrect. I've heard blues guys play amazing things that do not have speed involved and it is technically incredible.

@NocheezRecords Laymen like? So now I have to prove I know modes and compositional theory to make a pt???!!! If you feel something emotional from a composition its usually attributable to some technique and sloppiness is akin to lazyiness. You seem to want to champion the fact that a person can be lacking in skills yet produce something beautiful. Is that your mediocre self wanting to justify your own abilities? Ok then get inspird by mary had a little lamb. I'll listen to a master fit for laymen

@chillichomper I play, and I said technique is wonderful however technique in music is not just speed. There are hoards of techniques, probably in the thousands that are just as important as speed. That is my point. There are guitarists out there that people go wow, they are so technical because they are fast. I disagree, because some of them leave out everything else and their notes don't speak, they just run scales. That's not music. Your comments sound laymen like.

@NocheezRecords Really? I guess you don't play then. A musician is like an athlete. An athlete displays strength and speed and if he's good can make the necessary shots and moves required to perform.. An artist expresses him/herself within their technical and creative limitations whatever they may be. But that doesn't mean if they're severely limited technically they can produce much of any interest to anyone unless they're using samples or a computer to compose the music and play it.

@chillichomper Hmmm, any speed? I have to disagree. A great musician has to be able to express what they feel, whatever speed that may be. That's like saying a good musician has to use every string bend technique to be great. I think it's wrong on all counts. Speed doesn't have much to do with it. I do think technique is good though. It becomes harder to improvise when playing fast because whats really happening is people start to play planned runs with less and less variation.

@NocheezRecords Well, true but only a great musician can express himself/herself at any speed. Like mozart. Unfortunately, muscle memory gets in the way when you're shredding and it becomes much harder to improvise at high speed. That said. It ain't easy to play cleanly and fast and very often it's hard to change gears in the middle of a solo and downshit when you're burning frets!

@Fendershred50 - It is definitely a life long project to be a musician. You'll never be happy where you are and thats what makes one a good musician. It takes time no doubt, but keep puttin it in and you'll grow immensely. If you'd like, subscribe to my page. I will be doing a few lessons soon on small phrases and practicing them through modes etc. It could be helpful, I hope, lol.
