On this day in 1964 {May 10th} Gerry & the Pacemakers performed "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'...Seven days later on May17th, 1964 the song entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #87; six weeks later on June 28th it would peak at #4 {for 2 weeks} and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100...On the same 'Sullivan' show the quartet also performed "I Like It"; it would entered the Top 100 on September 20th, 1964 and eventually reach #17...Their first appeared on the 'Sullivan' show was just one week earlier on May 3th, 1964; at that time they performed "Don't Let the Sun" and "I'm the One"; which made its debut on the Top 100 on July 5th, 1964 at position #95, the next week it was at #82 and that was its last week on the chart...

Really good song , and Gerry did pinch one of George Harrison's early girlfriends . There must have been something in the water back then in Liverpool .

I was hooked on this song the first time I heard the sad music intro and Gerry's first line" Don't let the sun catch you crying...." I was spell bound at the verses: "Your heart may be broken tonight, but tomorrow in the morning light, Don't let the sun catch you crying..." I remember STOPPING WHAT I WAS DOING and just sitting there and LISTENING until the end of the song. I remember getting up and going to the screen door and looking up at the sun that was shinning through an overcast sky of gray... with wet eyes.
