Thanks for the scoop on "The Wanderer" and "I'm A Rainbow" albums. I think "Who Do You Think You're Fooling," the title track, and "Looking Up" are the best songs off the former. "Romeo" is, pretty much, my only pick off the latter. As I've mentioned in earlier comments, Geffen (as in the record company) just didn't have the smarts and experience of their Casablanca counterparts when it came to handling the career of Donna Summer. Ultimately, she always remained the great artist she ever was.

The Wanderer was not finished Harold Faltemeyer said in a recent interview that Geffen records were rushing the album, and that he and Gorgio would have tweeked the album more,but it seem that there was always executive in the back saying give me the tapes. He also said that I'm A Rainbow, which was not the title only had a few track complete,the album was cancelled,so the released 96 album really was not a completed product ! He also said it was Geffen's executives that made the poor decisions

Geffen's second blow: He passes on "Another Place And Time" which Ahmet Ertegun happily picks up and has a massive success with. Follow up "Mistaken Identity" is Donna's oddest album to date. "When Love Cries" and "Work That Magic" become minor hits for Summer. "Say A Little Prayer" should have been a single. Vocals and production are impeccable but far from being at the same artistic and commercial level of its predecessors. It'd take Donna 17 years to make what it'd be her last album.

"Cats Without Claws" is arguably the best Donna Summer album since "Bad Girls" was not a big hit and defies explanation. Great songs, great mixes, impeccable production, and a gem in "Forgive Me." And a second Grammy for Best Inspirational Performance. "All Systems Go" is a great album too. I call it Donna's own personal album. She did what she wanted to do with it. That nobody appreciated it, it seems, "leaves you answered with a question mark!" as Duran Duran would sing in "The Reflex."

However, and overall, except for the lead single; the wrong songs were picked for singles. Nothing against "The Woman In Me" or "State Of Independence" at all. But "Love Is Just a Breath Away" and "Lush Life" are just better. Geffen's first big mistake: He passes on "She Works Hard For The Money." Thus giving Donna's former label their last hit "collaboration" since she still owed them an album at that point. Casablanca, now a Mercury imprint, made the most of it too. Ironic, isn't it?

Geffen's personal life and taste in music have nothing to do with Donna's career. "The Wanderer" was an OK album. Especially when considering it was the follow up to "Bad Girls." "I'm A Rainbow" didn't fare well either. The only worthy track was "Romeo" and, not suprisingly, I believe, why its inclusion on the "Flashdance" soundtrack. Production on the self-titled "Donna Summer" album is rather messy. It's definitely not at the same level as "Thriller." Or even "Bad" by Michael Jackson.

Geffen had surprisingly bad taste in music for a gay man... but he was stuck in bi bi land all through the 70`s, dating Cher and other gals. I`m convinced HE ruined Donna`s career... fatally misjudged her material and talent... to think that he thought the Summer Moroder Bellote sound had grown stale in 1981, when Moroder was having success with Blondie, Irene Cara, Phil Oakey, and Melissa Manchester during the same time period!!

There are DJ cds that are available on Ebay - I have one, a double cd set published in Brazil, copyright and licensed, that has many of her 80's 12" singles remastered on CD. Includes Dinner With Gershwin, both 12`versions of All Systems Go, Hard for the Money, Eyes, Supernatural Love, When Love Cries, Walk Away, and all of her SAW 12`remixes and more. The enquiring mind might also appreciate my own remixes of Cold Love, I`m Free, Control, The Wanderer, which are posted here on my channel.

I couldn't agree any more with all of you, guys!!! I suppose Geffen just didn't have the "smarts" that the Casablanca/Mercury team possessed when it came to Donna Summer. This mix and the original version of "Supernatural Love" are amazing. I could only wish for some brave, intelligent soul to compile all of Donna's incredible 12" mixes of her work from "The Wanderer" to "Crayons" and everything else in between on 1 CD collection for release soon! Thanks for posting this great mix!
