The I.G.Y. was an international scientific project promoting collaboration among the world's scientists. Fagen's lyrics reference futuristic concepts such as solar-powered cities, a transatlantic tunnel, permanent space stations, and spandex jackets."

Yeah , I was raised on the same ideologyThe moonshot was the big IGY for me. But I think Fagen is poking fun at us on how it didn't turn out and it all went South in the end.My biggest problem is we don't have men or women of great vision or decision with our political leaders anymore.Its all about the re-election cycle and short term vision to keep whoever is in power.
