Released in 1988, I remember first hearing this then. I remember thinking that the century's end was only 12 years away. Wow! The years have just flown by. However, Donald Fagen has remained a musical genius.

Century's end could have easily slotted into the Nightfly album, and that's not a bad thing as for the few of us that completely get this beautifully crafted music produced by Donald Fagen and Gary Katz, it's a pity the same process didn't go into the video, you would never know the song was used in the film Bright Light Light Big City film other than the start title, mind you the film was a bit "is that it" and was a change in direction for M J Fox at the time, round about 1988/89 I think.

I used to hate this guy's music when i was growing up in the 70's. Then i got in to a band and started understanding music and styles. Jazz and blues. I SO get him now. I had to grow in to his music. He's on a different level than the others.
