Found the video in an old backup and decided to upload it. A commenter pointed out that it was performed at the Beat Club - Germany, 1971. Always a favorite.

I don't think this is from Beatclub, having watched this from 1969 onwards. It appears to be a live performance. Hope to find out where & when.

If the live versions and studio version is the same, who the heck would pay to go and see live performances? People coming to see live performances expect something different, and artists should provide the same!

You have to ask why he distorts the tune the way he does. I've heard him doing it in so many songs. You will have difficulty finding an album-quality version of any of his songs. The cynical part of me can't help thinking that McLean is saying "if you want the good version, where I sing the words with the proper tune, then pay money, and buy the album. You're not getting the good version free of charge on youtube". And I can understand this approach. You can't just giv everything away for free.

Wow! thanks for uploading this video. Beautiful words and music. Please read the book "Lust for Life" by Irving Stone you will understand how Van Gogh struggled to be understood and fit in this cruel shallow world.

Amazing to think one man and a guitar can create something so beautiful

all vincent wanted was to connect with another human...art was his first language, and it makes me so sad to think how misunderstood he was. We must be aware, every day, of those around us trying to make contact...

"They were not listening, they're not listening still, perhaps they never will" (McLean) . . . "The World Won't Listen" (Smiths Album) "If they don't believe me now, will they ever believe me?" (Smiths song) - I don't think that's just random, this song must've been somewhat influential on Morrissey.

His wife, Patrisha is a photographer. They have two children. And in fact, he looks like an angel in this video.
