Dolly Parton wrote this song in the 70's to some asshole TV dude who tried to screw her over. However, she felt obligated to help him out because he started her TV career. So even though she left him, she was always going to love and appreciate him. Dolly has made a huge contribution to country music. Insanely talented. Whitney Houston put her own spin on a song that was already beautiful. Both are amazing and both brought in a different target audience. Dolly received a huge amount of royalties for Whitney cover. She laughed all the way to the bank on that one!!

I think Dolly has the larger lung capacity.

before, i only heard this song because it is the song mostly sang during amateur contests...but i can honestly say, i never knew the meaning of this song when it is being sang. but when i watched this, i understood it clearly. dolly sang it with full emotion, not overacting but clearly conveying the message so that everyone could understand what she feels in that scene... love it so much :)

I've heard Dolly said after Whitney redid the song something along the lines of 'When I wrote and performed the song I put some money in the bank. When Whitney did the song I bought the bank.'

This song sounds horribly. Nothing can compare to Whitney Houston's version.

The song was written by dolly and Kenny Rogers then later adapted into the movie the bodyguard where Whitney made it one of the most recognized songs ever

I Don't Care If Whitney Didn't Write The Song. She Still Did A Good Job, & So Did Dolly. I Applaud Them Both
