I'm 47grew up in 80s to when guitarists ruled the world. Was blown away by evh at the time but 30yrs later I think I should a been way more of a George fan back then cuz I wouldn't got stuck in a development rut while learning to play guitar. Evh is good but he's kinda a gimmick player George does more with this solo than evh did in his career. HTs off to George I should a worshipped you back then if I did I be a much more creative player today lol

I think for the most part 80's guitar solos lack soul and I definitely think 80's guitar lacks brevity. Damn soloists didn't know when to stop. If you listen to Jeff Beck, and what makes him and others like him completely interesting, is he knows when NOT to play. You never knows what he's going to do next (for the sake of the song, that is) so he holds your interest completely. Will he play in this passage? Will he not play? Will he solo here or play just rhythm? Kind of keeps things interesting for me. This simple concept however was lost on all but a few 80s guitarists.But all this being said, I kinda like this track from George Lynch. At least it has a melody line rather than just a run thru scales and 100 mph shredding. Well, yes it does have 100mph shredding. But at least it's somewhat palatable.
