I heard this song for the first time the other day. And immediately I thought of Johnny and June so I put there pics in the video part. The audio is from a live Doc Watson show in January. If you don't know Doc Watson you should check him out. He is one of the best still going at 85.

PS Rosa wrote the song. Doc did the guitar arrangement for it.

And now Rosa Lee Watson joined him on Thanksgiving 11/22/12 just 6 months after Doc passes. They're with their son Merle Watson. We're honored that you and your family has shared your long journey with us here.

Even though he calls it Your Lone Journey, it sounds to me that he sings "long journey." I learned it, long ago, from the Watson Family recording with Doc and Rosa Lee singing together. It is a wonderful song. Thanks for putting it here.

What a beautiful, beautiful song created by 2 people so in love after more than 60 years of marriage. At Merlefest Doc would refer to RosaLee as "my little sweetheart". I know those pains of grief and my heart goes out to all the members of the Watson family. We'll miss Doc so much but how wonderful that he and Merle are together again. FYI - on the Doc Watson Family CD the title of the song is listed as Your Long Journey.

Yes that is correct - the name of this song is "My Lone Journey! " It is a song about death approaching - no one knows how "long" a journey death may be- but we know it is a journey one must travel alone.

Just heard Robert Plant sing this yesterday. It is a very beautiful song.

Rosa Lee & Doc wrote this as 'Your Lone Journey', and it seems that when Alison & Robert recorded it on their Raising Sand cd, it got renamed 'Your Long Journey' they also changed a part of the lyric, from 'pangs of grief' to 'pains of grief'... just an observation. Love both versions though.

Alison has those deep country roots which is surprising for a city girl. If you like this song, you need to listen to Oh, Death by Ralph Stanley.
