Loved this in High School back in the Bronx in1965 the first year at 16 I had money to spend and I did For some so true back in the day I felt it! "dressin' fine, makin time, we swagger up and down the street, we get respect from the people we meet they make way day or night, they know the In Crowd is out of sight, it's easy to find romance, have a spot where the beat's really hot, if it's square we ain't there, spendin' cash, talkin' trash, our share is always the biggest amount" We were on top forever or so we thought until the real world hit and hit hard For my northern English mates LOVE NORTHERN SOUL when I first saw it I thought it meant NY, Philly, Chicago, Detroit but soon saw it meant Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield

I like this song more than the overplayed "Drift Away", I always thought this was the better of his hit songs.

On this day in 1965 {February 27th} Dobie Gray performed "The 'In' Crowd" on the syndicated television program 'Hollywood A Go-Go'... One month earlier on January 9th, 1965 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #13 and spent 9 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #11 on Billboard's R&B chart and #8 in Canada... Later in 1965 the Ramsey Lewis Trio released an instrumental version; their version peaked at #5 on the Top 100... R.I.P. Mr. Gray {1940 - 2011}...

I don't think so, Lewis did an instrumental. Gray came first.
