Terfel did this one better in my book. Terfel was more gentle and lyrical. This song is not a dramatic powerful song

My understanding is that one's fach is correlated -- to some extent -- to body height. Basses and baritones are basses and baritones because they are taller and have corresponding longer vocal chords. Tenors are tenors because they are shorter and have corresponding shorter vocal chords. Put on some weight, and they look even worse. Five by five, as the expression goes. Is it true? Don't ask me. I'm biased. I'm a baritone, and above average in height.

to me it always seemed like the tenor got the girl. yeletsky didn't get the girl. baritones tend to be villains/tricksters. but i guess it depends on which operas you're looking at i guess lolz

@jhvorotin It's not a theory. It's an observation.

@marokt What do soft westerners expect; he's from Soviet Siberia! That he lived to survive is about the only "happiness" those dear ones ever have, but I've heard he's a loving husband, and daddy to his two kids, most important.

True, great Siberian power. Opera house walls are in great peril of collapsing with him singing!

He can sing easily as well, but he hasNn't got a lot sense of humor.

The whole purpose of the cadenza is to show off your own personal artistry. What is written is just a rough outline of what you should sing. It's perfectly acceptable to make your own cadenza.
