+robertm2000 Not every song needs to sound the same, and would you mind posting a link to some of the tunes you believe all 'your chosen genre label' of music need to sound like to maintain their 'chosen genre label'?

+robertm2000 You surely have right to dislike this but saying it doesn't swing and is a "pale" imitation of american jazz is pretty inaccurate...Django is far more than an imitation. He has his very own style. And so is gipsy jazz. It has a distinct personality.

DJango Inspired Les Paul and Chet Atkins, and Probably hundreds of other Guitar Players with his early Recordings. He was truly a great Guitarist.

I can see where Jackie Gleason got the melody for the theme for The Jackie Gleason Show. Both amazing songs.

Is this old enough to be in public domain?

A lot of his work from the late forties and early fifties was recorded electric, including a stunning version of this particular song. Look up "Nuages electric" and you'll find a perfect example of Django's electric playing. :)

Fully licensed? Aren't his works mostly public domain, and free for anyone to use?

There's a story in an old Guitar Player mag about his U.S. tour he did with I forget the others in the line, but he used an electric, and it was just awful. Have to find the story now.

In the final years of his life, he did experiment a bit with an electric guitar, but Django preferred acoustics.

As I know, he always played acoustics.
