#ProjectFunkGPlusUpALittleA little John Mooney for y'all. Not the greatest recording, but captures the spirit of the man, and how much fun a Mooney gig is.I had the privilege of playing with John at Tipitina's in 1992, on my first ever visit to town. I was sitting on a bench up on the Moonwalk playing harmonica to myself when this guy sat down next to me, listened for a while, and said "Hey, that's not too shabby, I'm playing at Tips tonight, come and join in". I had no idea what Tips was, who who John Mooney was ... but I learned pretty damn fast! Turns out John is pretty much King of the slide guitar (crown prince, at the very least), who learned straight from Son House (google him). One of the scariest gigs I've ever played (talk about being dropped in at the deep end!) but also one of the most fun.Anyway .... Dirty Rat ... John Mooney.

Awesome. And Jon Cleary too! What is this from? I used to see Mooney play every weekend when he lived on Pine Island and even got to sit in with him once. I was hooked on his music the moment I heard him.

Looks like John Cleary on piano. Also the late Earl King has a word about New Orleans music. Really looking forward to our gig with John Mooney on June 9 in Tampa. He's got a waycool style and unique approach to the blues.

I saw John Mooney last year in Belgium - one of the best concerts I've ever saw. Great singer and inventive player.
